Description of the genus

A small tufted annual. Culms very small or up to 7 cm long, scapose. Leaves few to absent, eligulate. Inflorescence terminal, capitate. Lower primary bracts leaf-like, not sheathing. Partial inflorescences spikelet-like, but composed of several to many distichous glume-like bracts, each subtending a highly reduced spikelet. Spikelets with a subcoriaceous prophyll, and a single, tiny hyaline glume with a floret. Bristles absent. Nutlet cordate-obovoid.

Worldwide: 1 species, native to NE Namibia and C Zambia
