Description of the genus

Erect annual with stilt-roots. Inflorescence a panicle, with elongated central axis and tough branches. Spikelets all alike or nearly so; sessile by type, but appearing to be pedicellate; lower floret barren; upper floret bisexual. Pedicellate spikelets and pedicels completely suppressed.

Worldwide: 1 species in tropical Africa and India
