The park is dominated by woodland and has a great variety of rniombo formations including some interesting areas of dwarf Brachystegia stipulata over deposits of bauxite. There are also areas of lake basin chipya and small patches of dry evergreen forest in which typical species are Dialium angolense, Embelia schmitzii, Strychnos matopensis, Parinari excelsa and Entandrophragma delevoyi. There is some particularly rich riparian forest and mushitu with trees such as Parkiafilicoidea, Diospyros mespiliformis and some exceptionally large specimens of Erythrophleum suaveolens and Khaya (nyasica) anthotheca. The swamp and riverine vegetation is rich in wetland grasses and sedges. The area has an unusually high number of pans as well as some papyrus swamp, dambos and floodplains which attract high densities of game animals.
