Note 4: Note about some alien plants in the Mukuvisi Woodlands by Mark Hyde

This note describes the group of alien species to be found near the Blatherwick Avenue gate in the Mukuvisi Woodlands and discusses their origin.

Five species, not native to the Mukuvisi Woodland, are to be found near the Blatherwick Avenue gate at TR978255. These specimens might be thought to be part of the native flora and are hence included here.

According to Meg Coates Palgrave on 9 April 2006, these were planted in c.1981-2. Some of the plants were provided by Meg herself.

The species involved are:

  1. Dalbergia sissoo
  2. Ficus ingens
  3. Phyllanthus reticulatus
  4. Sclerocarya birrea
  5. Ziziphus abyssinica
