Tufted annual, 10-40 cm tall. Inflorescence terminal, of 1-9 ovoid spikelets; spikelet with 1-2 scales between spikelet bracts with recurved apex.

Habitat: Shallow pools, shallow soil over rock pavements, dambo grassland.
