Description:
Perennial with short rhizome bearing closely spaced leaf-bases. Ligule of uppermost leaf sheath 1.0-1.8 mm. Perianth segments absent or rudimentary. Glumes 1.9-2.6 mm, pale straw-coloured or pale green. Achenes markedly transversely ridged.

Zimbabwe, Bulawayo
Notes: Red data list status: Widespread: Least concern
Derivation of specific name: muricinux: unlike the shell of the sea snail Murex, presumably referring to the nutlet.
Habitat: Wet grassland, often on black clay soils.
