Description:
Perennial herb up to 45 cm high, growing from a vertical cylindrical rhizome, up to 9.5 cm long. Leaves many, stiffly erect; outer ones sheathing at the base with lamina absent or up to 12 cm long, more or less densely hairy; inner leaves 2-6, linear-lanceolate to linear-elliptic, up to 45 cm long, plicate, thinly hairy with stellate hairs or almost hairless, narrowing into a hairy pseudopetiole before sheathing at the base. Inflorescences up to 3with peduncles usually less than 2 cm long, flattened in cross-section, hairy. Flowers 1-2, subsessile, yellow, 2-3.5 cm in diameter. Fruit fusiform, 17-30 mm long with the remains of the perianth tube at the apex, eclosed within 2 bracts up to 20 mm long.
