Description:
Leaves oblong to subovate, with lateral nerves in 10−12 pairs.

Notes: Ficus polita as applied by Berg (in Flora Zambesiaca), is considered by Burrows & Burrows to be a synonym of Ficus modesta F. White. But Berg gives Ficus modesta as a synonym of Ficus ottoniifolia subsp. ulugurensis (Mildbr. & Burret) C.C. Berg.

Habitat: Submontane areas, Mafinga mountains.

Worldwide distribution: This subspecies is confined to the submontane areas of south-west Tanzania, northern Malawi, just coming into Zambia on the Mafinga range on the Malawi border.
