Description:
Perennial herb; up to 30 cm. tall; rhizome hemispheric to subglobose; leaves 4-8, ternate, up to 40 × 2-8 cm., ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, hispid. Scapes 1-10, up to 30 cm. long, hispid; flowers 6-12, in cylindrical racemes 5-12 cm. long, tepals 12-21 × 4-8 mm, hispid outside, golden yellow. Capsule 5-9 × 3-5 mm, turbinate-obconic, circumscissile.

Derivation of specific name: goetzei: after Walter Goetze (1872-1899), German naturalist, explorer, photographer and collector of botanical and zoological specimens in Tanzania.
