Description:
Small to medium sized tree. Trunk typically light grey with characteristic bands of darker lenticels. Leaves alternate more or less obovate, shiny green. Flowers in terminal clusters, small greenish-white to cream. The fruit capsules typically split open while still on the tree, revealing the bright orange, sticky covering of the seeds.

Notes: Zimbabwean records of Pittosporum viridiflorum have been named var. viridiflorum. The variety of the Zambian plants is not known but we have provisionally also placed them under var. viridiflorum.
Derivation of specific name: viridiflorum: green-flowered
Habitat: In open woodland, on rocky outcrops and along the margins of riverine and montane forest.

Worldwide distribution: From Ethiopia and Sudan south to South Africa, Arabia, Madagascar and southern India
