Description:
Robust shrub-like perennial herb up to 2–3 m tall; stems sparsely to very densely setose. Leaves suborbicular in outline, up to 8 × 8 cm, obscurely or distinctly 3–5-lobed, setose-hairy on both surfaces, especially on the veins, base cordate or subcordate; margin crenate-serrate; petiole up to 7 cm long ; stipules 4–5 mm long, filiform. Flowers up to 7 cm. in diameter, yellow with purple centre, solitary in the axils of the upper leaves and forming racemes at the apices of the stems; peduncle up to 15 mm long, stellate-setose, articulated near the base. Epicalyx of 5 ovate-lanceolate to narrowly triangular bracts, up to 25 mm long, joined for c. 4–5 mm at the base. Calyx shorter than or equalling the epicalyx, pubescent; lobes ovate to ovate-lanceolate, joined to nearly half-way. Petals obovate, up to 7 × 6 cm, pubescent. Capsule ellipsoid, 22 mm long, densely stellate-setose.
