Description:
Perennial herb up to 60 cm tall growing from a vertical tuberous rootstock; most parts hairy to pubescent; stems usually solitary and unbranched, erect; leaves subsessile or with petiole up to 3 mm long, blade 3-8 x 0.1-1.3 cm, linear to lanceolate, venation prominent; inflorescences extra-axillary with 4-10 flowers in nodding umbel, peduncles 1-13 cm long and lengthening in fruit; calyx lobes 3-6 x 1-1.5 mm, lanceolate to broadly triangular, purple; corolla campanulate or occasionally reflexed, white or greenish, tinged with dull pink, lobes 5-8 x 3-5 mm, ovate; corona lobes cucullate but with a rounded tip making it appear subglobose, c. 3 mm long, white with purple tip; follicle erect, c. 5 x 0.5 cm, narrowly fusiform; seeds c. 0.4 x 0.3 cm, ovate.

Derivation of specific name: palustris: swampy or marshy, in reference to its typical habitat
Habitat: In montane and seasonally waterlogged grassland, occasionally in open woodland.
Altitude range: 1200 - 2200 m
Flowering time:Oct - Jan
Worldwide distribution: Scattered in tropical Africa from Nigeria to Uganda in the north, and Angola to Zimbabwe in the south.
