Description:
Scrambling, branching perennial herb up to 2 m tall. Stems whitish-woolly, leafy to the apex. Leaves up to 15 × 5 cm, more or less narrowly oblong or elliptic, narrowing into a pseudopetiole and clasping the stem, thinly greyish velvety above when young but becoming green and hairless later, white woolly beneath; veis prominent beneath; margin wavy, entire or minutely scalloped. Capitula hemispherical c 1.2 cm in diameter, forming more or less lax panicles at the ends of branches. Involucral bracts shiny yellowish or straw-coloured, sometimes tinged with brown, 4-5-seriate, ovate to lanceolate. Florets yellow.

Derivation of specific name: goetzeanum: after Walter Goetze (1872-1899), German naturalist, explorer, photographer and collector of botanical and zoological specimens in Tanzania.
