Suffretex with several horizontal or prostrate simple stems up to 30(40) cm long radiating from a woody rootsock; stems smooth, glabrous or with long irregular spreading or appressed hairs; leaves projecting upwards, 6-10 x (0.2)0.3-0.5(0.7) cm, 10-25(40) times as long as broad, linear, parallel sided or tapered very gradually from near base to apex, glabrous or with sparse irregular hairs particularly at the margin; flower heads 8-12 cm in diameter borne at stem apex; middle bracts 2-3.3 x 0.6-1.3 cm, glabrous except for the ciliate margin; inner bracts (4)5-7 x 0.3-0.7 cm, linear, usually longitudinally inrolled, clearly exceeding the flowers, resembling the middle bracts in indumentum; flowers white, 3-4(5) cm; perianth base glabrous or with short hairs near the lower margin inside, limb 10-12(17) mm long with sparse to dense long appressed to ascending hairs at least on the 3 fused segments and with tuft of dense hairs at apex; style glabrous. |
