Description:
Stem erect. Leaves linear and grass-like, widening to 4-5 cm at the sheathing base, dying back to the base in the dry season. Pedicels 2.5-3 cm long. Perianth 35-40 cm long, orange-scarlet to bright coral pink. Bracts 20 mm long or more, ovate to ovate-acuminate, not more than three times as long as broad (cf. A. fimbrialis). Perianth 35-40 mm long.

syntypes from Zambia
Notes: The plants are difficult to spot in the dry season as the leaves die back to the bases. This no doubt partly accounts for the scarcity of collections.
Conservation status: Widespread, not uncommon, least concern
Derivation of specific name: nuttii: named after W.H. Nutt, who collected in the Lake Tanganyika area in the 1890s,
