Description:
Shrubby perennial up to c. 1 m tall, growing from a woody rootstock. Stems pale yellow. Upper leaves usually alternate or opposite, lower leaves 3-4-whorled, elliptic, 3–7 cm long, usually hairless or with few hairs above, more pubescent beneath; margin very variable from entire or serrate to irregularly lobed. Capitula numerous in lax to congested branched heads on peduncles 5–25 mm long, pubescent, with glandular and non-glandular hairs. Involucre 4.5–10 × 8–10 mm; bracts 7–10, 2-8 mm long, hairless or pubescent. Florets few per capitulum, 4.5–6 mm long, white. Pappus 5–6 mm long, of c. 40 scabrous bristles unequal in length.
