Perennial herb, stoloniferous, with 5-10 culms clumped together from a short vertical or horizontal base; culms sharply triangular, sometimes twisted. Inflorescence a cylindrical green spikelet. Nutlets pale brown, obovoid, longitudinally ridged with transvers bars. |

| Notes: | FTEA accepts E. fistulosa (Poir.) Schult., without subspecific ranks. WCSP and Gordon-Gray treat E. fistulosa as a synonym of E. acutangula; WCSP recognizes three subspecies of the latter, two in our area. Red data list status: Least concern. |
