Metteniusaceae

Description of the family

Evergreen trees, shrubs or lianes. Leaves alternate, entire. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual. Calyx present 5-lobed. Petals 5, reflexed. Stamens 5, exserted, alternating with the petals. Ovary superior, 1-locular with 1 ovule. Style 1. Fruit a drupe with or without a prominent lateral fleshy appendage.

Worldwide: 10 genera and 62 species, mainly tropical.

Zambia: 2 genera and 2 taxa.
