Description of the genus

Trees and shrubs. Leaves entire. Flowers in dense fascicles, 4-5-merous. Sepals and petals often marked with dots and lines. Anthers sessile, adnate to corolla. Ovary superior. Fruit (in ours) a 1-seeded drupe.

Worldwide: Pantropical genus of 100 species
