Description of the genus

Prostrate to erect suffrutices or shrubs, never climbing. Leaves small, entire, usually with medifixed hairs. Flowers 5-merous, axillary, solitary or aggregated into few-flowered clusters or pedunculate cymes. Sepals subequal or outer ones larger. Corolla small, funnel-shaped; limb shallowly lobed; mid-petaline areas hairy. Ovary 2-locular, 4-ovulate. Styles 2, quite or almost separate, not forked. Capsule 4-valved. Seeds glabrous.

Worldwide: 20 species, mainly African, extending to Arabia and India
