Description of the genus

Annual herbs. Leaves alternate, lyrate-pinnatifid or serrate. Capitula in terminal panicles, heterogamous, disciform; outer florets female; disk florets bisexual. Phyllaries 1-2-seriate; margin membranous. Corolla greenish, yellowish-white or purplish, typically 2-coloured in one capitulum; corolla of disk florets campanulate, lobes not rotate and spreading. Achenes flattened-obovoid. Pappus 0 or of a solitary short seta, or of minute papillose protuberances, or a narrow rim.

Worldwide: 4 species in the tropics of the Old World
