Description of the genus
Robust perennial herbs (in ours). Leaves alternate, simple. Capitula homogamous with 0 ray florets or heterogamous and radiate with ray florets female; disk florets bisexual. Phyllaries many-seriate. Receptacular scales 0. Achenes ± cylindric, 4-12-ribbed. Pappus 1-seriate, setaceous; setae few or many, often unequal. Worldwide: c. 90 species occurring in the temperate and warm regions of the Old World Zambia: 3 taxa. |
