Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs, rarely lianas. Leaves alternate; lamina elliptic-oblong to ovate. Inflorescence solitary, axillary or cauliflorous panicles; flowers sub-sessile to sessile; calyx tube turbinate, limb valvate, 5-fid; staminodia and stamens in 4 concentric rows. Fruit drupes, fleshy, globose. Seeds few.

Worldwide: 6 species in West tropical Africa.
