Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs with a simple indumentum. Leaves alternate, often long-petiolate, simple, entire or toothed, penninerved; stipules minute. Inflorescence axillary, solitary, racemose; bracts usually 1-flowered; flowers shortly pedicellate; calyx (4)5-lobed, imbricate; petals absent. Fruit subglobose or ellipsoid, subdrupaceous. Seeds solitary by abortion; cotyledons broad, flat, green.

Worldwide: 20 species in tropical Africa.
