Description of the genus

Shrubs, trees or climbers. Leaves alternate with a long petiole, 3-5-foliolate. Inflorescences terminal or axillary racemes. Sepals ovate-acuminate. Petals 4 (in ours), ribbon-like, as long as or longer than the sepals. Stamens many, borne on a short androphore. Fruit ovoid or ellipsoid, tardily dehiscent with 4 coriaceous valves.

Worldwide: 30 species in tropical Africa
