Location (short): Eastern side of Harare, c. 12 kms E of the city centre

Location (detailed): The area chosen is bordered by 4 roads:

  1. Harare Drive on the west;
  2. Arcturus Rd on the north;
  3. Donnybrook Rd on the east; and
  4. Mutare Rd on the south.

This includes the municipal area of Cleveland Dam in the southwestern part and Haka Game park to the north of that. These areas remain reasonably undisturbed and were our main recording areas.

On the northern side are various specialist areas such as rifle ranges and racing tracks. These were rarely visited by us.

The greater part of the eastern side of the area is intensively cultivated and more or less treeless. Few records come from this area.

Description

The Cleveland Dam area has long been one of our favourite stomping grounds. It is very easily accessible and offers a wide variety of habitats, which, though all inevitably somewhat disturbed, still yield a rich assortment of interesting species.
