Habitat: In Miombo-Terminalia woodland and adjacent dambo areas. Disturbed by cattle grazing and charcoal production. Vertisol soils.
Location: Namwala District; Ila National Forest. 11.0 km west of Namwala along motorable dirt track.

Notes: Tree; 4.0 m x 13 cm DBH. Bark grey-black, rough. Stems brown-grey, smooth. Leaves glaucous below. Young, fruits pale green, seeds cream. Plant with persistent woody, thorny catkin-like shoots on older stems.
