Description:	Erect annual herb, simple or more or less branched, up to 65 cm high. Stem more or less 4-sided and narrowly winged towards the top. Leaves 1.5-8 cm long, linear to narrowly lanceolate, distinctly cordate-auriculate at the base except sometimes the lowermost leaves; margin entire. Flowers in lax, few-15 flowered axillary inflorescences on a peduncle 4-18 mm long. Petals 4, obovate deep pink.Stamens 4-8, Exserted. Capsule globose, 2-3.5 mm in diameter.

Notes:	The combination of auriculate leaves and rather lax, few-flowered inflorescences on longer peduncles distinguishes this species from others in this genus.
