Shrubby perennial, occasionally up to more than 2 m high but usually much smaller. stem much-branched, fibrous, black; ultimate branchlets erect, up to 1 cm in diameter. Leaves in terminal tufts of 2-8, linear, 6-50 cm long, strongly pointed at the apex, pubescent towards the base, veins usually narrower than spaces in between. Flowers almond-scented, 1-4 on peduncles up to 14 cm long. Perianth pale blue to mauve, purple-pink, shading to white; tepals linear-lanceolate, 2-4 cm long, pointed at the apex. Ovary narrowly ovoid to subcylindric, densely covered with ovoid, simple, suberect, non-glandular trichomes. Capsule ellipsoid, 15-20 mm long. |
