Description: |
Dwarf shrub, up to 60 cm, dying back each year after winter frosts or fires. Heads (6)8–12 cm diameter. Bracts silvery velvety when young but often becoming hairless over most of the surface. Flowers white. Perianth claw with long whitish hairs inside and occasionally outside. |

Notes: | Var. divaricata (Engl. & Gilg) Beard is a much stouter shrub or small tree, occurring mainly in Brachystegia woodland. It tends to flower later, between April and July. |
