Common names:
Shrub or small scrambling tree, up to c. 3 m tall. Bark greyish-brown; young branches covered in whitish lenticels. Leaves spirally arranged or clustered on dwarf spur branchlets, elliptic to obovate, up to 40 × 15 mm, dark green, thinly textured, hairless or finely hairy; apex rounded or notched, often bristle-tipped. Flowers solitary or in clusters on the spurs, mauve to purple-red; petals absent; stamens and style on a long stalk, called the andogynophore. Fruit narrowly cylindrical, up to c. 50 × 5 mm, warty, hairless. Seeds embedded in an red powdery pulp.
