Common names:
Status: Native
Erect or ascending, succulent perennial herb, up to 2 m tall. Leaves up to 25 × 12 cm, ovate-oblong to spathulate, mostly hairless; margin distinctly crenate, sometimes edged reddish. Flowers in many-flowered corymbs, together forming a large terminal panicle, up to 40 cm long, Corolla yellow, orange to brick-red; tube often whitish below.

Habitat: Along forest margins, along streams and roadsides, usually in sunny places.

Worldwide distribution: Throughout most of tropical Africa to South Africa. Also, probably naturalised, in Egypt, tropical America, India and Malaysia.
