Description: |
Small to medium-sized or large tree. Stem grey to brown, somewhat rough and fissured, often with small raised thorn-tipped bosses. Thorns downward-hooked, in pairs at the nodes, blackish, up to c. 5 mm long. Leaves (for this subspecies) not large, up to c. 6 × 4 cm, with 3-5 pairs of pinnae; leaflets in 3-6 pairs per pinna, 3-4 mm wide, paler blue-green below, widest near the apex, distinctly asymmetric at the base; small thorns are often present on the rhachis below. Flowers in axillary spikes, creamy white, with the leaves. Pods straight, up to 18 × 3.5 cm, almost hairless, often with a wavy margin, leathery to slightly woody, dark red to purple-brown, dehiscent. |
