This variety is distinguished by its more robust and stiffly erect habit, upto 1 m high and the indumentum on the stems of spreading to appressed-pubescent hairs.

Derivation of specific name: purpurea: purple
delagoensis: of Delagoa Bay in southern Mozambique.
Habitat: Grassy places and river banks.
