Erect, branched shrub or herb 0.8-4.5 m tall. Stems mostly sparsely pubescent or glabrous. Leaves mostly fasciculate. Main nerve of leaflet central or nearly so. Fruit of 1-2 articles joined by a very narrow neck, each article elliptic, rounded or semicircular, glabrous or with a few marginal hairs.

Derivation of specific name: abyssinica: of Abyssinia (Ethiopia)
Habitat: Miombo woodland, thicket margins, rocky terrain in light shade.
Altitude range: 580 - 1900 m
