Small, erect or decumbent perennial herb with 1–several usually unbranched stems, 3–15 cm tall, growing from a small round or turnip-shaped tuber up to 2.5 cm long. Stems slender somewhat zigzag, covered with with appressed or spreading white hairs. Leaves 1-foliolate, obovate, obtriangular or obcordate up to 5.2 cm long, hairless to very sparsely hairy on both surfaces and margins, densely glandular-punctate beneath; petiole and petiolule together up to 3 mm long, often bristly pubescent; stipules lanceolate or triangular, 2–3.5 mm long. Flowers 1 or 2 together, axillary, mostly hidden amongst the leaves, yellow. Calyx pubescent and densely glandular, 2–2.5 mm long. Pods ovate- or elliptic-oblong, 6.5–8 mm long, puberulous and with longer brown hairs.
Type location:
Derivation of specific name: pumilum: dwarf.
Habitat: Brachystegia woodland on decomposed rocky soils, Brachystegia–Monotes woodland with Cryptosepalum, dry bushland and along sandy roadsides.
Altitude range: 1100 - 1500 m

Worldwide distribution: Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
