Description:
Creeping or scrambling perennial herb. Leaves 5-lobed, divided for about 3/4 of the length with elliptic to rhombic segments, stiffly hairy on both surfaces. Inflorescences axillary, 1-2-flowered on long hairy peduncles; Petals obovate white or pink with conspicuous dark purple-red veins; stamens 10. Fruit smooth, hairy with a beak, 12-20 mm long.

Notes: Zimbabwean records of Geranium arabicum have been named subsp. arabicum. The subspecies of the Zambian plants is not known but we have provisionally also placed them under subsp. arabicum.
Derivation of specific name: arabicum: of Arabia, where the type specimen was found (Yemen)
Habitat: In damp, shaded areas in woodland and along margins of forest.
Altitude range: 1100 - 2130 m

Worldwide distribution: Widespread on the mountains of Tropical Africa. Also in Arabia and Madagascar.
