Common names:
Status: Native
Medium-sized tree. Bark grey-brown or grey-green, smooth or somewhat fissured; young branchlets rusty hairy. Leaves alternate, paripinnate, with 2-4 pairs of oblong-elliptic leaflets, up to c. 18 × 7 cm, somewhat leathery, hairless above, velvety below, particularly on the main veins, up to 36 × 16 cm, oblong-elliptic or elliptic; margin entire. Flowers small, creamy-white, in large terminal branched heads, up to 40 × 20 cm, unisexual in the same inflorescence. Fruit a flattened capsule c. 2 × 2.5 cm, with a distinct rim, velvety, splitting with the valves curling backwards. Seeds c. 1.3 cm long, brownish-black, with a red aril.

Derivation of specific name: paniculata: with a branched inflorescence or panicle.
Habitat: In riverine forest, swamp forest or moist evergreen forest.
