Description:
|
Perennial herb with annual stems, growing from a cluster of fleshy tubers. Stem erect or ascending, usually single, unbranched, up to 1.5 m tall, sometimes branching near the base, densely pubescent with spreading white hairs. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate, lanceolate, ovate to oblong, up to 12 × 7 cm, with slightly rough spreading white hairs on both surfaces, cordate or truncate at the base; margin with minute rough hairs. Inflorescences terminal and extra-axillary, 4-8(-14)-flowered secund umbels. Corolla spreading to saucer-shaped, brownish-purple and densely pubescent outside, pale green with purple-brown lines inside. Lobes up to 15 × 10 mm, ovate, pointed, minutely papillate and with short hairs towards the apex and margins. Corona lobes cream or pink with a purple tip, almost as broad as long apparently folded into a pouch, lower than the staminal column. Follicle erect on a twisted pedicel, up to 12 × 7 cm, ovoid or fusiform, usually inflated, without wings or ridges, pubescent. |
