Description:
Straggling shrub or small evergreen tree. Leaves opposite, narrowly ovate to elliptic, dark green above, much paler below, densely velvety on both surfaces. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered axillary clusters, pale yellow, sweetly scented. Corolla lobes strongly reflexed when fully open; stigma conspicuously exserted. Fruit on long stalks pendent, near-spherical, crowned with persistent calyx lobes, brown when ripe, edible.

Derivation of specific name: dryadum: from dryos, Greek for a tree.
Habitat: In riverine thickets, dry mixed woodland and on rocky hillsides.
