Description: |
Erect or prostrate suffrutex, up to 45 cm tall, growing from a woody rhizome, rarely a small shrub up to 1.2 m. Leaves opposite mainly on the apical parts of short branches, oblanceolate, up to 7 × 2 cm, more or less sparsely pubescent on both surfaces; bacterial nodules small, dot-like, few and scattered; domatia absent; stipules triangular often with a hair-like tip 1-3 mm long. Inflorescences on short, leafless side branches, few-flowered, laterally compressed. Flowers white, sweetly scented; corolla tube slender 2-4.5 cm long, hairless or sparsely pubescent outside; not bearded at the throat; lobes lanceolate, 6-8 mm long, spreading to somewhat reflexed, with a small greenish apical mucro. Fruit 5-7 mm in diameter, glossy black, hairless to sparsely hairy. |
