Description: |
Robust tendrilous perennial climber with stems up to 15m. Leaves very variable, more or less broadly ovate in outline, up to 16 × 20 cm, unlobed and 3-5-angles to deeply palmately 3-5 lobed, dark glossy green, sometimes with distinctly paler yellow veins, leathery, scabrid-punctate but hairless except for fine hairs on the veins above; base more or less weakly cordate; margin with small widely spaced sinuate teeth. Tendrils 2-fid. simple. Inflorescences unisexual on differen plants; male flowers in stout, 3-25-flowered racemes; female flowers in short, denser 2-12 flowered racemese, rarely solitary. Corollas similar, rich yellow to orange, bell-shaped with a slightly swollen tube c. 2 cm long and apiculate lobes. Fruit ellipsoid, up to 4 × 2.5 cm, smooth, red, usually in racemose clusters, rarely solitary. |
