Description:
Low spreading perennial herb, up to 60 cm wide or 25 cm tall, growing from a woody taproot. Stems annual, 1-several, branched, covered in brownish or greyish felt-like hairs. Leaves more or less broadly elliptic, covered in greyish felt-like hairs, more densely so below, often also with conspicuous brownish hairs on the margin and veins below. Capitula terminal and axillary, with green involucres bearing spreading straw-coloured spiny bristles. Florets whitish or reddish-tinged. Pappus of numerous bristly straw-coloured setae, up to 11 mm long.
