Description:
Erect perennial herb to 50 cm. Stems simple or sparingly branched. Leaves numerous, mostly in a basal rosette; lamina up to c. 10 × 1.5 cm, linear-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, glabrous to hispid or glandular-setose; margin sinuate-denticulate to recurved dentate. Phyllaries glabrous or pubescent and glandular-setose, the setae sometimes up to 1.5 mm and black. Achenes 7-10 mm (including the 1.5-4 mm beak), fusiform or subterete, brown, ripening to a bright orange-red, evenly ribbed, the ribs antrorsely muricate. Pappus c.5 mm.

Habitat: A pyrophyte, usually in seasonally wet grassland and on roadsides.
