Description:
Perennial herb, growing from a fleshy, creeping rootstock. Stems erect, ascending, trailing or climbing, up to 50 cm long, more or less densely hairy. Leaves opposite, ovate, 3-10 cm long, more or less densely hairy on both surfaces, more so on the veins below, somewhat cordate at the base, rarely with 2 small basal lobes; margin entire or irregularly crenate-dentate; petiole 4-25 mm long. Flowers solitary or in opposite pairs in the leaf axils. Corolla pure white to very pale mauve. Capsule 6-9 mm long with a beak, 8-12 mm long.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: schimbensis, referring to the Shimba Hills in southeastern Kenya, where the type specimen was found.
Habitat: In woodland or wooded grassland.
Altitude range: Up to 1050 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: DRC, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
