Common names:
Status: Native
A large (up to 35 m.) to medium-sized evergreen tree. The usually acuminate leaf apex distinguishes this from the P. curatellifolia.
Type location:
Sierra Leone
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: Submontane, riverine and dry-evergreen forest. 1200-2000 m. in Zambia; in coastal forest in W. Africa.

Worldwide distribution: Widespread in areas of higher rainfall in tropical Africa; also in South America.
