Description:
A sparsely branched tree to 8-10 m high, perhaps the tallest of the Proteas. Leaves 5.5-12 times as long as broad; 1.3-2.7(3.3) cm broad. Bracts red or pink towards the tips, occasionally cream coloured.
Type location:
Zambia
Notes: Widespread in Zambia. Charcoal production a possible threat. Near threatened.
Derivation of specific name: rupestris: amongst rocks
Habitat: Open miombo woodland or wooded grassland on escarpment slopes, often in stony ground.
