Description:
Erect woody herb or shrub 0.5-3 m tall. Leaves opposite, elliptic to elliptic-obovate, 10-34 cm long, discolorous, dark green and hairless above, densely covered in creamy-white, felt-like hairs beneath; petiole 1-10 cm long. Stipules large, ovate, 3-4 cm long, red or pale green flushed purplish-brown, papery, usually bristly hairy at the base. Flowers in axillary heads, held in conspicuous bright red or greenish-pink involucres 2-4 cm long, densely bristly hairy inside at the base. Corolla white, hairless; tube 2-3 cm long. Fruit orange to red when ripe.

Notes: The involucres are usually filled with water and may contain debris, seedlings etc.

Habitat: Riverine swamp forest.
