Erect herb to 30 cm. tall; stems annual from a tuberous rootstock; tubers up to 9 × 3 cm., yellowish; stems and branches glabrous or with a few scattered hairs, cylindric, longitudinally ribbed, internodes 1 to 3·5 cm. long, often zig-zag; tendrils absent. Leaves simple; petiole up to 1 mm. long, glabrous; leaf-lamina 3.5–6 × 0.5–1.5 cm, very narrowly elliptic to elliptic, margin distantly dentate, glabrous or sometimes with sparse hairs along midrib beneath. Cymes leaf-opposed, of few-flowered congested umbels. Flower-bud 1.25 mm long, glabrous. Calyx 0.75 mm long. Fruit red, 7 × 4 mm. Seed 1, 5 × 3.5 mm, smooth. |
