Description: |
An erect slender or ± bushy annual herb, 10–40 cm tall. Stems simple to much branched, sometimes branching from near the base, leafy, ribbed, densely pilose below to ± sericeous-pubescent above; branches straight, stiffly ascending, up to c. 19 cm long. Leaves subsessile, up to c. 8 x 0.8 cm, linear-oblanceolate, subobtuse at the apex, narrowly attenuate to the base, subentire to remotely serrulate on the margins, sparsely thinly pilose on both surfaces but more densely so on the midrib and nerves beneath. Capitula few to numerous, in loose 2–4-capitulate terminal clusters, sometimes solitary on long stalks; stalks mostly 1–20 mm long, densely pubescent. Involucres 9–12 x 9–15 mm, obconic, phyllaries diverging in mature heads, densely white sericeous-lanate. Phyllaries numerous, obscurely longitudinally ribbed, densely white sericeous, long ciliate on the margins, from c. 3 mm long and subulate outside, longer and linear-lanceolate towards the inside, gradually tapering to a finely pointed purple apex. Corollas creamy-white to pale-pink, 7–9 mm long. Achenes 1.8–2.3 mm long, narrowly angular-turbinate, 4–5-ribbed, setulose on the ribs, gland-pitted and rugulose on the faces. |
